Memorial to Charlie Campbell

In loving memory of Charles T. “Charlie” Campbell, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and man of unwavering faith, who passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2025, at the age of 81.

To those who knew and loved him, he was known simply as Charlie, Daddy, or Pap — names spoken with affection, respect, and gratitude. Charlie shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Donna Jane McClellan Campbell. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and service to others.

Charlie leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his children, Charles Bret Campbell and wife Meg, Melissa Beth Ming and husband Nolan, and Amy Darlene Campbell; his siblings, Bruce Campbell and Tina Victoria Haynes; ten beloved grandchildren, Beth Campbell and husband Sam West, William Campbell and partner Haley Lisowski, John Campbell, Adelia Stanley, Mary Margaret Stanley, Olivia Ming, Anna Ming, Arlo Ming, Charles M. Campbell, and Mary Grace Campbell; and one treasured great-grandchild, Allyson Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles T. Campbell, Sr. and Maxine Wellman Campbell, as well as his brothers, David Russell Campbell and Ronald Gene Campbell.

Born on May 22, 1943, in Louisa, Charlie spent his youth in Kentucky and West Virginia before settling in Huntington, where his father owned Campbell’s Pharmacy. It was there that he met and married his high school sweetheart, Donna, in 1964. Together they graduated from Marshall University in 1967 and began building the life they would lovingly share for six decades.

Charlie’s professional life reflected his dedication and integrity. After beginning his career with Houdaille Industries, he later moved his family to McMinnville while working at Powermatic, where he spent nearly 30 years and rose to become Vice President of Finance and Controller. Later in life, Charlie and Donna followed a shared passion for real estate, founding Campbell Realty in 1997. Working side by side every day brought them tremendous joy and became another beautiful chapter in their lifelong partnership.

A faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Charlie lived his faith not only on Sundays, but through his daily actions. He served as a trustee, Finance Committee member, choir singer, Rotarian, volunteer meal delivery driver, and willing helper wherever he was needed. Quietly and consistently, he embodied kindness, humility, and Christian service.

Charlie found happiness in the simple gifts of life: tending a garden, watching flowers bloom, fishing, golfing, enjoying the lakes and beaches he loved, and gathering weekly with dear friends for lunch and conversation. He especially treasured time with his grandchildren, often beginning visits with his beloved “walk of the land” to admire what was growing.

Above all else, Charlie’s greatest joy was his family. He was present for every game, concert, performance, graduation, and milestone. He made family dinners a priority, filling the kitchen table with laughter, questions about everyone’s day, and unwavering love. Whether listening to oldies and jazz in his favorite chair or learning the latest songs his grandchildren enjoyed, Charlie had a special gift for making each person feel valued and deeply loved.

Charlie Campbell leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, generosity, humor, and steadfast love. Though he will be deeply missed, his influence will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him, in the family he cherished, and in the countless lives he touched through kindness and grace.
